David's Story

Meet David, a third generation, Colorado native who's lived in the beautiful city of Colorado Springs for 33 years. He's the proud owner of Angler’s Covey, a small business that's been a part of the community for 27 years. But David's story is more than just owning a fly shop – it's about his love for the outdoors and his dedication to making life better for everyone around him. 

David's passion for the great outdoors runs deep. He's been working in outdoor recreation for over 40 years, and for the past three decades, he and his wife, Becky, have been running Angler’s Covey while raising their twin kids. Their daughter, Rachel, now plays a big role in running the family business, which has grown alongside Colorado Springs over the years and earned the national award of “Orvis Fly Shop of the Year 2021”. 

Back in 2004, David saw the need for more space for Angler’s Covey to flourish, so he grabbed a spot right on the way to the mountains. But David's not just about business – he's all about community too. He's been active in local events and groups, always advocating for the benefits of getting outside and giving back whenever he can. 

One of David's proudest achievements is starting the Colorado Springs Fly Fishing Film Tour in 2010. This event has not only raised thousands of dollars each year but also led to the creation of The Morning Hatch Foundation, which supports mental health nonprofits using the outdoors. David believes in the healing power of nature, and he's dedicated to helping others find solace in the great outdoors. 

In 2015, David took his commitment to the next level by founding the Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance. This organization partners with local groups to promote outdoor values, improve access to recreational areas, and advocate for conservation. Their hard work hasn't gone unnoticed –they were even named the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Southeast Region Partner of the Year in 2020. 

But David's drive to make a difference doesn't stop there.He's now serving on the Colorado Springs City Council, teaming up with Mayor Yemi to tackle issues like mental health and homelessness head-on. And with the chance to become a county commissioner for El Paso County, David's ready to work even closer with the El Paso County Public Health and community partners to address the mental health crisis facing our city. 

David's story is one of passion, dedication, and a deep love for Colorado and its people. Through his work with Angler’s Covey, City Council, The Morning Hatch Foundation, PPORA, and beyond, he's making sure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy and live their best lives possible.
